The Fiat Fiorino Cargo is a van built for innercity courier work thanks to practical internal configurations, agile handling and economical engines. It’s one of the oldest cargo vans on the market with its origins beginning in 1977 as panel vans before downsizing to adapt to modern demands for urban life. An ideal van for any business or self-employed tradesperson with light goods.
The Fiorino began life in 1977 as a van with an almost separate backbox which ended up being emulated by many other European manufacturers at the time. This back box layout continued into its second generation in 1988 but Fiat streamlined the design to make it a little more uniform.
The second generation was reviewed so well with steady sales that it wasn’t replaced until 2013, a steak of 15 years which is highly unusual for a motor vehicle, although it did get a facelift in 2012.
The current generation streamlined the backbox to make the van have an all-in-one body and a front grille which resembles all the cars from the Fiat line up, not just the vans. However, the biggest change is in the interior with modern creature comforts added to make the driving experience more in line with a passenger car.
The lineup of engines was expanded to offer for both petrol and diesel models and even a bi-fuel option. This, along with a modern and comfortable interior makes the Fiorino Cargo one of the most popular small commercial vans on the market.
The Fiorino is an excellent van to lease. Driving is a doddle with electronic stability control, hill start assist, traction control, cruise control and parking sensors. From a loading point of view, the Fiorino is generous with 2.8 cubic metres of space and up to 610kg weight.
