A brief history of the Crafter

The original Crafter was built by Mercedes-Benz and was almost identical to the Sprinter. However, it was able to differentiate itself enough to pick up the WhatVan? Overall van of the year, professional van and light truck large van of the year and van fleet world’s best large panel van awards in its first year being on sale.

Fast forward to now and it is now entirely built by Volkswagen from 2017 which has enabled them to lower the cost and use their own engines which is a 2.0 TDI or a 2.0 BiTDI engine. Now a fully VW van it’s gone on to win more awards starting with the 2020 Parkers best large van and overall van gongs as well as the commercial fleet Large LCV van of the year 2019 award.

Is a Crafter a good van to lease?

Yes. The Crafter is known to be reliable and high performing. The sheet number of variants means that everyone is catered for and it does have the quality German feel that their passenger vehicles are known for.

Large panel, dropside and Luton are all available and with two trims - Starline and trendline as well as manual and automatic gearboxes.

Payloads range from 735kg to 2,573 kg, load volume from 9.3 to 18.4 metres cubed, load length from 3,201 to 4,855 mm and a width of 1,832mm.

Just because it’s a van it doesn’t mean it lacks the features we’ve come to appreciate in passenger vehicles and can some with park assist, crosswind assist, lane-keeping assist, air conditioning and of course satellite navigation.

There are simply too many variants to list here but using our filters you can find the perfect Crafter with the desired wheelbase, payload, towing capacity, miles per gallon and any other must-haves that you want.
